(121) Start a Chewing Gum Making Plant
Sweetened gum used for chewing is a product made from gum and similar resilient substances. It appears in many forms and it chewed for its multi-flavored taste. Since antiquity Mediterranean people have chewed the sweetened resin of the mastic tree as a tooth cleanser and breath freshener. After World War II, various water insoluble substances, such as elastomers, synthetic rubber and gum of high molecular weight hydrocarbons virtually became the main raw materials for chewing gum manufacturing. To begin the gum manufacturing process, blocks of hardened gum are broken up, then screened and strained before mixing with other gum bases. Sweeteners and flavoring are added during cooking. After extruding in and forming it into the desired shape, the gum is then passed between rollers onto a belt for cooking. After being coated with sugar syrup, the chewing gum is then packaged.
Though sweetened chewing gum is not an essential item in our life, people around the world on a daily basis increasingly enjoy it. Moreover, artificially sweetened chewing gum found a wide market in the U.S.A., Europe and other parts of the world. As the world’s standard of living continues to rise, so will the demand for sweetened chewing gum. Therefore, it is still likely that investment in a sweetened chewing gum plant should prove to be profitable.
2. General Processing Information
2.1 Description of Manufacturing Process
2.1.1 Granulated sugar is weighed and put into a Universal High Speed Crushing machine ground into fine sugar powder of 200 meshes.
2.1.2 At the same time, the desired quantity of gum base is placed into the gum Melting machine and heated to a temperature of 90℃ so as to melt the gum base into a semi-liquid form. (Any plant that is equipped with a steamer may connect a bypass with the mixer. In this way, the gum base can be dissolved in the mixer. An electric heater is also available for heating.)
2.1.3 The fine sugar powder, semi-liquid gum base and maltose, flavoring are mixed in accordance with their desired proportions. They are then mixed in the melting and mixing machine for about 20 – 25 minutes.
2.1.4 The mixture is then put into the gum extruding and forming machine to make a desired size of 300 mm wide and 25 mm width, which late passes through a 5-Roller machine to meet the required specifications. Then the mixture is reformed to the desired size by the forming machine. The formed chewing gum can be conveyed to the cutting machine for further dicing.
2.1.5 Granulated sugar and maltose are blended with the desired master formula and pour into the Double-Layer pot sugar and maltose cooking and mixing machine. The, mixture is then delivered to the melting machine so as to combine with rice milk syrup making purposes.
2.1.6 The completely formed chewing gum is stored in a well ventilated room with temperature between 20 - 22℃ and humidity about 50% for one day. The rice syrup mention above is then poured into the coating machine for coating over the chewing gum. The coating machinery is equipped with cooling air pipes through which the drying proof can occur. As a result, the chewing gum can be coated completely with the syrup.
2.1.7 The coated gum can then be packed after passing through the Selective machine. As products that fail to meet the quality control standards will be sent to the gum Crushing machine for reprocessing.
2.1.8 Finally, the candy is heat sealed and ready for shipping.
