Start a Hair Wig, Extension and Hair weft Business

(224). Start a Hair Wig, Extension and Hair weft Business
Learning how to start a wig business is a great way to keep up with fashion trends as well as help those who have lost their hair due to illness. Wigs are not just a costume accessory anymore; wigs are high fashion and are used openly by celebrities and non-celebrities alike. Lace wigs are typically made with real human hair and are hand-sewn to a lace backing which makes them look very natural.
What You Need to Start:
  • Knowledge of wigs and how to fit them
  • Inventory of wigs
  • Storefront or website
  • Wig displays for physical store (Styrofoam or plastic mannequin heads)
  • Website for online only store
  • Wig and hair accessories (wig caps, barrettes, etc.)
  • Computer with finance software
The Good:
  • The popularity and acceptance of wigs is on the rise.
  • The start-up investment is relatively low.
  • Customers will pay incredibly high mark-up for top quality wigs.
  • Excellent customer service will keep customers returning.
  • You can run this business either online or from a physical store.
  • Franchises are available to help you get started.

HAIR EXTENSION

Are you looking to start your own home business. How about a mobile hair extension business? To go to a beauty salon and purchase hair extensions and have them put them in is a long, expensive process. To be able to call someone to come to you AND be less expensive would be a great option for customers. Here's how you can start your own mobile hair extension business.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Product - hair extensions and weaves
  • Presence - logo, business cards, business name and license, website
  • Appointment book
  • Transportation
    • 1
First start with going to the city and getting your own business license. There you can find out if you need to get a health exam or any other requirements that the city would want.
    • 2
Advertise by having extensions in your own hair. When someone asks about your hair, make sure your tell them they are extensions and they you can do the same for them, too.
While you are waiting for appointments, practice on your friends and families hair, ask them to pay for the hair and offer your services for free. Not only are you getting practice, you are also getting free advertisement.
    • 3
Decide on a set rate. Include your mileage in that set rate. Later on when your business builds you can change your rates. Don't worry about charging too little as experience has no price. You may not make much profit in the beginning, but that is part of a start up. Don't worry about making money, just concentrate on doing what you love and the clients will come.
    • 4
Decide on a business name that is clever and catchy. You can go formal, "Hair Extensions by Janel" or cute, "Cher Hair". Whatever you decide make sure the title includes what you do. It will help identify you immediately to the public and also help when people are searching for you on the internet. Make sure to get a magnetic sign on your car, too.
    • 5
Build a website with your set rates. Add a page that shows people step by step instructions on how to care for their extensions. Follow up with your own video showing how to wash your hair with extensions, or how to do different hair styles with hair extensions.
    • 6
Put ads on craiglist.com advertising yourself and have a set price in mind. Hair extensions are very expensive and some people will not bother to call because they will think they cannot afford it. Letting them know they can afford it will bring in customers.
    • 7
You need to purchase inventory to show customers and to have on hand. You don't want to go to a clients house and find that you don't have the right color hair. Get as many colors as you can and then make sure you ask a customer before you go to their house their hair color and what color they want put it, to make sure you have it.
    • 8
Look for new developments in your town and place flyer's in their mailboxes. Some developments have their mail boxes in a central location making it easier to put your flyer in each box.
Is it prom time. Buy some advertising in the year book, or go to tuxedo shops and ask if you can leave your flyer's there.
    • 9
Answer your cell phone with your business name or your own name. You don't have a brick and mortar store front, but you still want to be professional. Have your appointment book with you at all times so you can make appointments right then.
    • 10
As your business grows, consider training others.

      CLIP IN HAIR EXTENSION

Making clip-in hair extensions is one of the easiest things you can do. It is also possible to make a little money in the process---if you have a little know how. This article will discuss both parts of the process: the construction of the hair extensions, and the business planning that is involved.

      Things You'll Need

      • Variety of hair samples Hair wefts Hair clips Needle Thread Insurance agent Lawyer Accountant (optional)
      1. How to Make Clip-in Hair Extensions for Money

        • 1
Start off by gathering small samples of human hair, or buy some outright. You may be able to get free samples at local beauty stores or online. Usually you have to buy the hair yourself. Depending on your budget, you may choose to start with two to three hair color shades. Brunette, blonde and red are good starters. You do not have to keep a stock of hair.
        • 2
You will order the hair wefts for your client after you do a color match. A hair weft is a little "curtain of hair" or single layer of hair that is attached at the top by a piece of special fabric. When you buy them, they will come without the clips, and you will have to sew them on yourself. We will get to that step shortly. You may also choose to keep a small ring with a variety of hair samples in different shades, so you will have an exact match of your clients hair when go to buy the hair. This ring will not be wefts, just small pieces of hair like the ones you see in front of hair color boxes at beauty stores.
        • 3
Buy 100 percent human hair in your client's hair shade. Synthetic hair is available for sale, but few people use synthetic hair. It cannot be styled the way human hair can and does not look or feel like real hair. Also, 100 percent human hair is optimal because you can rest assured there is no animal hair blended into the hair weft. The hair wefts should be packaged and in good condition.
        • 4
Buy the hair clips, needle and thread separately. You can use an ordinary needle and cotton thread to sew the clips on. The clips will be small metallic clips that pop out when you put pressure on them. They should be in the hair extension section at any beauty salon.
        • 5
Attach the clips to the wefts of hair by sewing them on. The rubber side of the clip needs to be touching the hair weft. Make sure the clips are securely attached to the weft. Clips need to be attached about every 2 to 3 inches.

        How to Start the Business

        • 1
Play it safe by contacting an insurance agent, a lawyer and maybe an accountant. If you are considering starting a business, it is usually best to be prepared. There are a number of things that could go wrong---and you will want to be covered if they do---such as someone deciding to sue you for an inferior product, accusing you of overcharging or adopting bad business practice. Also, you may need help from an accountant preparing your taxes every year, since you will be considered self employed.
        • 2
Build a client base by hosting parties or advertising through local means. Newspapers, magazines and fliers can help you start up your business.
        • 3
Touch base with past clients. They will reference you to their friends and come back to you when they need new extensions.

           HAIR WEFT/HAIR WEAVING

Hair weft is the classical and traditional hair extensions. Which also can be called hair weaving.

How to Start a Hair Weave Business

Selling human hair for weaving can be a lucrative business. It is important to have the proper approach to get the results that can make you financially independent. Hair imported into the U.S. is from China and India. Indian Remi hair is the most expensive hair that you can buy; it ranges between $100 to $300 a pack, depending on the length of the hair. Nonetheless, the human hair weaving industry has become a multimillion-dollar business, and many investors are looking to get in.

          Things You'll Need

          • Money
            • 1
Research the product. Knowing exactly what you want to sell---hair types, colors, lengths and place of hair origin---is essential. All human hair is different and categorized by brand and quality reputation. The hair you choose to sell will determine how much start-up money you will need.
            • 2
Prepare to travel. If you decide to sell the finest quality human hair, you or a company representative will have to travel to China or the temples of India to outbid other distributors. This requires large amounts of capital. Human hair bundles sell between $10,000 and $20,000 each.
            • 3
Decide how and where to sell. If traveling is out of the question, you may need to contact a wholesaler. Wholesalers are important because they do the traveling for you. Going this route is not as financially satisfying as being your own hair distributor, but it does offer significant returns. Decide how you want to sell---independently or in a retail store. Starting a human hair weave business can be costly and requires enough capital to sustain the business until you reach proper clientele numbers.

  14. I am a huge fan of the head shaver groomie. It's incredibly easy to use, and I can get my entire head shaved in about two minutes. The best part is that there is no risk of nicks and cuts (as long as you don't press too hard), so you can shave your head without worrying about getting cut.
