People around the world have used shopping bags made from various types of paper for many years.  However, the use of plastic to make all types of bags has become even more popular in many countries.  In Taiwan, virtually 100 percent of all shopping bags used by retailers and manufactures are made of plastic.  The most popular type of plastic bags used here are those made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as its high resistance against heat and pressure.
In fact, the use of plastic bags creates serious pollution problems has not been one of concern for the people of most nations for they have been more concerned with the benefits of plastic bags.  To begin with the raw materials used to make plastic bags are easily obtainable and relatively inexpensive.  Secondly, the procedures used to produces plastic bags utilize inexpensive machinery as opposed to high priced labor.  Finally, the ease with which attractive advertising can be printed on plastic bags has made them a favorite among profit oriented businessmen around the world.
Meanwhile, the demand for plastic shopping bags produced by plant such as the one outlined in this proposal will increase dramatically in the future. As more and more country around the world develop their own plastic industry and the manufacturing technology enhancing consequently, at the same time the profits for making plastic shopping bags is predictable. So the requirement of investing on plastic shopping bags making plant increased doubly from the emerging market.

Description of Manufacturing Process
  • High-density polyethylene chips are heated and mixed into a mass of molten plastic.
  • This molten material is then extruded through a circular die to form a tube of plastic film. Air is blown through the tube to keep it inflated thou preventing one part of the tube from sticking to another part of the tube.
  • The tube of extruded film, having been adequately cooled by the air passing through it, is laid flat and wound onto rolls.
  • Each roll of film, if so requested by the buyer, is then fed into a flexography-printing machine, which prints the desired message on each bag.  The machine is capable of printing messages in up to five different colors.
  • After printing, individual bags are formed by a machine, which simultaneously cut and seals one end of the bag.
  • The bags, which are stacked together in blocks, are then automatically transferred to a rubber anvil, where a U-shaped cutting die automatically punches out a segment of plastic near the top of each bag to serve as a handle. 
(Remark: The sealing, cutting, stacking, blocking, and punching are all done by one machine.  This not only reduces the number of workers needed but also the cost of production, it reduces the possibility of defective products caused by human error at the same time.)
